Brasenia schreberi pistillate phase G. E. Crow pistillate phase

Quiet ponds and lakes, usually in acid and soft waters. Mature leaf blades all float on the surface of the water. The maroon or dull purple flowers are held above the water on one day when the anthers discharge pollen, and on a second day when the stigmas are receptive, thus helping to ensure cross-pollination by the wind.
