A widespread Eurasian weed, apparently established in Michigan by the middle of the 19th century. First collected in 1843 (presumably from Macomb or Oakland Co.) but reported as early as 1838 (First Survey). Roadsides, fields, gardens, lawns, and disturbed ground generally. In sheltered or warm places in lawns or along buildings, this is one of the first plants to bloom in the spring.
