Native mostly in the Southwest, but occasionally adventive eastward. Collected in 1895 (first noted in 1892) in the same refuse area that produced Thelesperma megapotamicum (see under that genus) and other adventives introduced with wool from New Mexico. The Verbesina seeded itself and remained established for about a decade, at least.
