A native of the Andes, collected once at Detroit (Wayne Co.) in 1912, presumably as a garden escape. Another (1932) Detroit collection is apparently A. caudatus × A. cruentus, and one from the shores of Torch Lake, Houghton Co. (in 1940), is possibly A. caudatus × A. retroflexus. Both are apparently sterile hybrids.
