Native south of Michigan, but spreading in wetlands and discovered in Berrien Co. in 2011 by A. A. Reznicek, G. Wilhelm, and L. Rericha forming a dense carpet in a stream flowing through a fen. This is an  invasive species in other areas of the world, and should be carefully watched.
