A native of southern Europe, collected by O. A. Farwell (2002, BLH) in disturbed ground at Detroit, Wayne Co., in 1906.

This species has the sturdiest, harsh, thick-based prickles of any of our bedstraws, quite a rough, large-fruited, distinctive plant with remarkably thick pedicels curved into a U-shape compared with pedicels of other species.
