Potentilla anserina B. S. Walters

Sandy and gravelly shores of lakes and ponds or occasionally rivers, sometimes on rock outcrops, extending to marshy ground, ditches, and roadsides; especially in moist places, often calcareous or even marly, and most frequent around the Great Lakes shores. Sometimes segregated as Argentina anserina (L.) Rydb. Rarely the leaves are ± silky pubescent above, but it is the distinctive aspect of the lower surface that provides the common name.
