Occasionally escaped from cultivation near homesites and borders of forests. First collected in 1966 in Baraga Co.

Our plants are the Eurasian (and western North American) variant A. dioicus var. acuminatus (Rydb.) Hara. Variety dioicus is native mostly in the Appalachian and Ozark regions of eastern North America.
