Dry or moist fields and sandy openings, wet prairies and meadows, moist deciduous forests and moist ground along streams. This is easily recognized by the relatively narrow leaflets, more numerous than in our other species, with unusually numerous tiny leaflets interspersed (often 3–4 pairs between adjacent pairs of large leaflets).
