Sometimes planted, this European tree occasionally escapes in the vicinity of plantings. First collected as an clear-cut escape by E. A. Bourdo in Houghton Co. in 1962. There is a collection from Wayne Co. by Farwell, in 1917, but the label lacks a clear statement as to its status as a wild plant.
