A native of Europe, sparingly introduced in North America, especially near the lower Great Lakes. Collected in Michigan as early as 1850 by D. Cooley near Utica, Macomb Co., and in 1869 by H. Gillman near Fort Wayne, Detroit (Wayne Co.). Roadsides, shores, and vacant lots, but apparently not collected in the state since 1930.
