Placed in the Apiaceae (Umbelliferae) in Michigan Flora. Quite different from all our other Araliaceae and sometimes placed in its own family, Hydrocotylaceae.

1. Petioles marginal, attached at sinus of a reniform blade.
2. Umbels sessile or subsessile.
